While working, my computer restarts and the damaged Excel spreadsheet.

It appears that you have tried to open the file with a text editor and not in Excel. Open Excel, and then try to open the image to open the file from there. If the file is corrupted, then Excel will tell you when files are available to try to recover. If the file is not open and Excel gives you no other choice, then your only option is the last independent copy, which you can find the submission.
