What can I do about my extremely heavy period? (kind of gross)? - extremely heavy period

Okay, so I went into the class through the day and filtered again. I think everyone has seen, and my pants were covered in blood, even if I change my pad every hour. I had to change my pants 3 times, and I am alone on the 2nd Day of my period. Seriously, there's nothing I do? I wash the leaves, because I bleed every night. It really stinks!
I've heard it can take birth control? Right? I go to the doctor, is this normal?
